Wedding Photographer in Indianapolis Indiana"We are really doing this!" This is what I think of when I see this bride's reaction to her groom seeing her for the first time on their wedding day, which I like to refer to as "the first look." A first look is an opportunity for the bride and groom to see each other before their ceremony and to spend some brief quality time together before seeing all of their guests. When a couple chooses to do a first look, I, as their photographer, plan a special quiet location, usually away from people such as: a secluded garden, a quaint courtyard at a hotel, or even in a private residence backyard. I try very hard to include just the bride, groom, myself and my 2nd photographer at the first look location because I want this moment to be very very special between the bride and groom without distractions. I plan the first look without people looking on because there is no other time during the day when the bride and groom will be alone together until it is all over and all of the family and friends have gone home. After choosing a location for the first look, I position the bride and groom so they are not looking at each other. I may have one of them come up behind the other. I usually like the bride to come up from behind her groom and touch him gently on his back. After the bride and groom see each other, there usually is an eruption of joy and laughter, and sometimes tears. I usually stand a good distance back from the couple during the first look so they can share some personal sentiments with each other without myself or the 2nd shooter being able to hear what they are saying. I give the couple as much time as they need for their first look. After the first look I like to transition right into bride and groom portraits. This gives us a chance to take our time with portraits without being rushed; another benefit of doing a first look.
